Just an observation...I cringe when I hear these guys crank out yet another little girl ballad. They are a parody of the old rockers they used to be....sad, real sad.

I agree completely! I saw them in 1988, and they were fresh off the drugs and they were great! Now I'm not sure what their doing.
Steven Tyler is like a cartoon charecter anymore.

Aerosmith's greatest musical accomplishment is the drum beat to "Walk This Way". "The Train Kept A'Rollin" is cool too. Guitar Center sent me a catalog recently with an interview with Joe Perry and Mr. Tyler. The talked about how they are using all these digital recording tools that Guitar Center sells. I laughed my butt off thinking about those old guys trying to figure out the manual to a Mark of the Unicorn 896 Firewire Digital Hard Disk Recording System or whatever it was they were trying to push. It's not that they are old. Old people who still rock are cool. It's just that they suck... That's the problem.

I think Aerosmith, back in the day, were one of the best hard rock bands ever. "Rocks" is one of the most powerful guitar driven albums ever recorded. One of my personal favs.

One of the problems with newer Aerosmith is that they emphisize the vocals and lyrics. In the 70s, they were about the music and the riffs. Big difference. They are not about the music any more. They are about rehashing their own lyrics and melody over and over.

By the way, they have many people working for them, producers, engineers that know how to use that equipment. (laugh)

They went downhill after meeting Desmond Child. At this point Aerosmith is like the Rolling Stones, the 'new' they material they put out is anything but, and people go see the shows because they want to feel like they are young again for awhile.

I find Liv Tyler vastly more interesting than her dad. But "Sick As A Dog" and "No More, No More" would rate pretty high on my R n' R list. The outro solo on "No More, No More" contains some of my favorite post-Chuck Berry riffage ever.

An evening watching Joe Perry play in any kind of situation is a great evening.
Snap out of it.

Of course they're old and retread. But I look in the mirror and I'm not 19 anymore. So yes I agree with all of you, even when you differ, because it all fits. That's how I felt when I went to my first Aerosmith concert last October 23. Sure they're great and Joe is god, I'll enjoy my self. But then Joe did this-there is no words for it-incredible lead solo to Big Ten Inch as he trotted down the runway towards my way, with his guitar behind his head, and I never looked back for the rest of the evening. I'll be dammed I was speechless after the concert, and of course it's faded now, but back in October I couldn't believe what I saw...Joe Perry live. Lyrics are just what happens between our guitar solos, and Joe's are Gold.

Joe Perry's good but he's also ****y...I guess it's warranted to some degree with a career like they've had, but still, hes not THAT good. I just don't like people with egos bigger than their chops.

I was never a big Aerosmith fan...but they had their moments. Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way, and Back in the Saddle Again are about the only songs I can listen to anymore, and they're awfully overplayed

I just returned from my Aerosmith concert.

How could I be so wrong when I said

'Lyrics are just what happens between our guitar solos, and Joe's are Gold.'

Steve Tyler is what happens between Joe's guitar solos.
My butt is kicked again. His singing was pitch perfect on, he gave his heart to us, he smiled the whole time, and he made us, the audience, important. His lyrics and melodies, and his attack of the night was most moving and enjoyable.

They're still the best American rock and roll band I've ever seen. Not only did they blend the old with the new, and kicked all our butts tonight doing it, may I love the songs I perform live as much as they loved doing their songs tonight. Just phenomenal! The audience stood, danced, and sang along to every song. What more validation do you need? You are there for your audience. And they certainly were.

And what I saw Joe Perry do tonight...proves so much what fools we have here. I saw nothing c-o-c-k-y, I saw brilliance. I saw a great showman.

I guess that's not good enough for someone who precedes me.

And as for songs having their moments, every song
stands up to this day. They sound new, alive, and vibrant. And you can tell how much fun they are having on stage. No posing, just lots of smiles and energy. They are true musicians, all of them.

I know a lot of time has passed since then but, I saw them in 1977 during the "Draw the Line" tour.
At this time I loved their music and thought Perry was awsome. They were terrible!!! The were totally out of tune, vocals and guitars. They played like they could have cared less. To this day it was the worst band I have ever seen live(and I have seen some bad bands). I know this was during the "drug" years, but that is what I remember of them. Lucky for me concert tickets were $8.50,$9.50 and $10.50 back then. I had all their records up to that time, but never bought another.
I know they have cleaned up since then. But it has turned into product now. Go to the store and pick up some Crest toothpaste, some Lay's Potato chips and the new Aerosmith CD.

they suck ass and has for a long time. The only pussy they're getting is their own.
the best american rock band? read Rolling Stone magazine much? Actually you must get the senior citizen version. I can't remember a band i've seen in the last 3 years that isn't 10 times better.
I really enjoyed that performance they put on at the super bowl, playing a medley w/ N' Sync and Britney Spears, true rock and roll!!!! I'm sure a lot of people were standing and it was very moving it moved me to change the channel.
Can I say this loud and clear, there's never been one good band EVER to do a medley, medleys are the saddest compromise ever and if the songs can be that short then why aren't they to start. Anyone that does a medley of their own stuff should be killed on the spot or sell Doritos for a living(ala Aerosmith).
