I've recently discovered his music and all I can say is HOLY SHIT!!! This guy is a F***ing monster!!!!!
My new guitar teacher gave me some Al Demeola licks as coordination exercises. These licks were some of the craziest things I'd ever tried to play. I've heard of Al but had never heard his music so I downloaded a few songs and I was blown away!! JMO.

He may not be the latest thing, but you can't deny that he can play. MY opinion, nothing else. If you don't like it then I don't know what to tell ya.

That's great, and you could say that without sounding like a dick then I'd have no problem with that. Sorry about the spelling error [Roll Eyes]

Well if you bothered to take the time learn how to spell a musicians name instead of calling people dicks you might have heard of Al DiMeola alot sooner than yesterday.

Hes been playing since 1973 in Chick Corea's Return to Forever band before going solo. Which albums have you heard? Casino is good, so is Elegant Gypsies and Land of the Midnight Sun. I think those are his best studio albums.[/QB][/QUOTE]

Well he may of had Di Meola's name spelled wrong, but he was certainly correct in calling you a dick!

Actually you are all little snot-nosed know-it-all punks who couldnt play an original guitar riff if you practiced for 60 years.
But keep trying, even though no one wants to hear you play for more than 30 seconds before they yawn and walk away.

Don't bust this guys chops. He's probably young(he mentioned his guitar teacher).I thought Al was "the SHIT" when I first heard him and I'll bet most of you did too.So maybe we grew out of the "shread" thing.Upon re-listening to Romantic Warrior and Elegant Gypsy I remember why it blew me away.It smokes most of the "fusion" crap that's out there now.I don't mean to scold, but I've been watching this poor guy get flamed just because he's excited about a new guitar player he's found. And of course, none of us has ever "discovered" a player that maybe has already been around - like 25 years.

klasaine -- I agree with you 100%. To me, directing a personal attack against anyone on this forum because they (1) happen to disagree with you, (2) have a different level of experience than you have, (3) play a different style of music than you do, or (4) evaluate or comment on products in a manner that is different than what you consider appropriate is unacceptable. Disagreement is fine – bashing attacks are not.

Thanks guys.
I'm relativley young(27), and I've played for 18 years, but have always followed the philosophy to never stop learning. The way I look at it, there's always somebody out there that you can learn from.
I've heard of Al for years but never new anyone who listened to him. I've always listened to guys like SRV, Ian Moore, Audley Freed, Warren Haynes. In seeking out something new, Al was one of the guys I was exposed to. My new teacher has given me DiMeola licks as coordination exercises to help my picking technique. It works!
I originally posted this to hear feedback from other forum members that I respect. Well, I'm glad that you guys finally showed up.

I guess I've always figured that if you think it's cool, well then it must be cool. Nobody can take that away from you. I like "Friday Night in San Francisco", a live acoustic record that Al did with John McLaughlin and Paco De Lucia. Those guys are pretty darn good IMO.

Laroosco - if you're working on right hand technique get a copy of Al Di Meola's "Picking Techniques". This little book will REALLY challenge you, totally drive you crazy at times, and significantly help develop your right hand chops.

How do you not fall over every 3 minutes? How do you think long enough to even breathe? Don't go away mad, Billy, just go away. [Wink]

Laroosco-

Don't let this retard get ya down. I love DiMeola even today. I love playing 'Race with Devil on Spanish Highway' and 'Kiss my Axe', even though I'm more of a country guy than anything else. Have fun with it, man! [Smile]
