The live side still floors me. one of the biggest reasons I play today.

That live side is the very reason I play guitar and the reason why I sound the way I do. I still hear new things, or feel new twists and turns upon further listening.

I still remember the day a 'little version of me' sat with my head between the record player speakers and had that revelation of live Wheels-Spoonfull. I became what I am from that exact moment on.

Funny thing is to this day, I don't play the studio side of Wheels at all, and when I read stuff about it, I don't have a clue. But find a live side Wheels nut, and we could just talk parts forever.

My sig tune is Crossroads. I still play it at the end of every one of my gigs. And no matter how much I hit it, Eric still is better at it, and no matter how much I think I've got it down, out of nowhere I'll hear a new picking or new bend or basically hear it 'right'.

Plus, Sitting on Top of the World live, from Goodbye is like the best blues to me.
OMG I can't forget I'm So Glad live from Goodbye also.

I have a drummer Ginger Baker head who keeps sending me boots of their live shows. My wife thinks they all sound the same. I just smile and say, yes they do, ain't it cool!

Yeay, go do it. Long Live Cream!!!
I've heard many different versions of Cream's Crossroads. Everyone is different. I am so glad that on that night that version was recorded for Wheels. It's like the most perfect solo. And he was so young doing it. And at such loud volume. Eric was way clean. And he was probably just jamming. Yeay!

Cream stunk! very sloppy. anything with clapton sucks. he is the most overrated player in the business, and I cant figure out why. hes really not that great of a player, his songs for the little few that he does write are cheezy. jeff beck is much more deserving credit than crapton.

I was at Winterland in San Francisco when the 'live' side was recorded. Quite a show!

and you are an idiot.

I do agree about Eric's lack of ability to thrill me after the Layla album

BUT

We are not talking Clapton,
we are talking live WHEELS

I've seen Beck twice, and yes he blows me away. For years he was my all time favorite and 'the best' lead guitarist for me. Not one solo is ever the same, and that's important to me, and the more I listen to his solos, the more I grow. But we are talking about something much different than that. We are sharing a God like experience that happened before you were born. And that experience was that tour in 1968, that recording that my man mesa was at.

before I was born!? HA! I saw cream live before and my opinion was they sucked, period, high piched whiney vocals, guitars out of tune, etc... that 1 show you're talking about might have been good, but just my opinion I did'nt like cream at all. and the only good thing about the layla sessions was having duane allman, if it were'nt for him that album would'nt have become what it was cause in MY opinion any band that crapton was involved with sucked, cause he sucks. so call me an idiot or what you wish, but cream was a horrible band, they should have been called I scream CHEEEEEZE!
