I think JP is great. I think his songwriting is maybe a little more technical than it is creative, though.

That's why I like Billy Corgan. He's obviously not competing in the technical arena with any "great" players; he's just an incredible songwriter and performer (with some serious issues!!)

JP is the reason why prog is lame!! Because he does the weakest prog/metal stuff ever, Fripp would destroy him in a second. This guy sucks, and suck so badly he's actually bringing down a whole genre. Seriously I wish he would fall into some hot lava or something.

Fredrik Thorenal eats JP for breakfast, anything his weakass beaver perm fro can do , frederik can do it twice as fast and it'll sound alot better. i think you got it backwards. i don't like prog but i love dream theater, and i love them because of jp. he's not bringing down the genre, he's the only guy in the genre that i(a non-prog fan) want to listen to. i think that says alot. i can't wait to see john on the new G3 tour playing solo instrumental.

Real Prog Fan... just thought I'd let you know that Robert Fripp was on the G3 Tour when I wen to see the show.

So probably lots of Fripp fan should hang at guitar center ....

FWIW I'm not a big fan of either the whole prog scene, same goes for Dream Theater... not a really big fan of both but I can enjoy them from time to time.

yeah fripp played last year as the opening act, when people were walking in he did his guitar snyth atmospheric stuff not his best stuff but certainly not a wanker's delight. I read he was happy about playing because he got paid well and he loves to play the new frippertronics anywhere he can. A completely different thing than your usual g3 stupid faces and blues scales played uselessly again.

Just out of curioisity, what do you think of the 2 album Fripp did with Andy Summers(released on A&M)? It'sprobably out of print by now, but you must have heard about those.

I absolutely love those, not really your usual Fripp nor your usual Andy Summers but this stuff is amazing.

I thinkt the first one is very good while the second really drifts alittle. It's probably the best andy summers stuff ever, I would highly recommend no pussyfooting by fripp and eno, it's a real groundbreaker. And it's not a shredfest just incredable original music that does something, magic.

Well since this turned into a Fripp thread. My fave Fripp has to be on Bowies' Scary Monsters. You can really hear the Belew influence, who toured with Bowie just before that album and then hooked up with the Talking Heads. Remain In Light has some of fave Belew leads.

I've discovered that an Ebow with a looper can produce some pretty Frippertronic type nozies. I haven't found any other use for the Ebow yet.

And as far as the Smashing Pumpkins go, the drummer made the band. But they had some nice heavy moments. Kinda like NIN, if they would just wipe the vocal tracks they would be great.

Dream Theater I really have no opinion of. I met the keyboard player a couple of times when he was doing Korg demos. Nice guy, very talented but I sure wouldn't pay to listen to them.

Yeah, John Petrucci is Awesome! He's my favorite.

I think he's an incredible guitar player, only judging from his instructional video. I have "Awake", but I don't get into that kind of music. I read some of his lyrics on one song, just terrible! Just play, John, just play.
