Hands down,Zakk is the best today.You can't beat the country-metal thing he does.A kick ass guitarist for a generation focused more on style than actually playing.

Did you know that during one of the periods where Dickey Betts was in and out of rehab/the Allman Brothers Band, they tapped Zakk Wylde to fill in for him for a handful of shows? I'd like to hear a tape of that!

There is a discussion at the Allman Bros website about the handful of shows that Zakk played with them.
Apparently he acted like such a jack-ass they didn't keep him on. It's been a while since I read it. I'll go back and look for it.

I guess it was just stupid things like spitting beer all over himself and the rest of the band. It wasn't the kind of vibe that the Allmans wanted.
Zakk is great and has his own thing going for sure.

I would've liked to hear hear some of that Wylde/Allman stuff too.

I have an Allman Brothers show from 8/01/93 with Zakk. It's an audience recording and sounds pretty good.

I have a 2 cd copy of the Zakk/Allmans show and it is highly entertaining!! Think it came off the mixing board--great recording! You can find them on e-bay, just look a bit. I think mine was like $18.00 with shipping so it's not too hard on the pocketbook. The show is a "stark contrast" in playing styles--i.e. ultra tasteful Warren Haynes against Zakk's maniacal/overthetop/warp drive assault--I don't know if his playing "fits" or not--but it's fun to hear nontheless. The brothers sound much more like a "rock band" on that nite. I can imagine there was some hippie/phish/ABB fans that were freaked out over this incident and are still in heavy therapy:-) If you like the country/rock thing--check out Michael Lee Firkins--geez, that guy's a MONSTER!! Does all this far out fake slide stuff--real fun to listen too. Kinda "Holdsworthy" without the unbeliveable weirdness and impossible chord/music theory stuff.

MLF is a great player and a nice guy to boot.
