Hey all....pardon any typos or gibberish-my ears are still ringing from Lemmy and the boys at The World last night here in New York.
Normally i'm not a big metal fan, but there have been some great bands of that ilk. In fact, one could argue that given today's (nu)metal sound, Motorhead isn't metal at all. I'll leave that to the historians.
The two opening bands were awful, Morbid Angel in particular. Now, if you are a fan of theirs, I apologize-it just don't cut it for me, what with the drop tuning and the Cookie Monster vocals. Yikes--learn a melody, fellas ! Maybe it's just cos I'm old, but I think I'm pretty open minded and these types of metal bands give the genre a bad name. Hair twirling? check ! Tight jeans ? check ! Pointless guitar noodling ? check ! Sounds more like Morbid Cliche to my ears. But I digress...
Motorhead is certainly a band that ya gotta see live. The recordings have always sounded a bit tame to me, and the guitars kinda lifeless. Live is another matter, though--the guitar BLAZED in real life, and for a trio they just blew the doors off the openers, or any "hard" band I've heard in years. Lemmy's vocals were spot on, he was jovial with the crowd, and he gave heartfelt thanks to the FDNY and his now dead pal, Joey Ramone.
Hell, if you like to rock hard now and again (or always), fork out some dough and see these guys if they come to your town. I'm willing to bet you'll leave happy and deaf.

Motorhead rules!!! I saw them a couple of years ago, and couldn't believe how great they were. Hell, their recordings are just as ferocious as they ever were! How many 25 year old bands are as vibrant?
