You're damn right. I wasn't alive during most of his prime: I got into his music because I heard flashes of brilliance in their currently horrible songs. Man, from
Van halen to 1984 or 5150(the last decent album) he was unstoppable! I love to listen
to Fair Warning or II or Women and Children First. Diver Down was a misstep, but it is
great compared to their current crapola. Long live the brown sound, "Eddified" strat,
and effects like the MXR Phase 90. I know I was influenced by him: I own an MXR Flanger,
MXR Phase 90, and an EVH strat: A strat with a floyd, bridge humbucker, and D-tuna.
I love to crank up my amp while running a BOSS metal Zone, MXR Phase 90, and echo. I bust out tapping licks, Eruption, and whammy bar stuff all day. And they said the 80's was dead! Smile

I have been rediscovering edward lately. I picked up a bootleg cd called pasedena days. And it is live and unbelieveable. the sound he is getting is bad ass and the band plays the whole first album plus a couple of songs off vhII and women and children first. you got to get it. There is nothing like hearing your favorite guitarist pull of his studio music live!!!!! awsome

Thank you seven.

I said it before and I'll say it again.
The first four VH albums are mandatory. Cmon man we are talking about tunes like the cradle will rock, fools, D.O.A. outta love again,Mean Street, sinnners swing, not to mention the first album.

If anyone captured Raw, angry, crude, unruly youth EVH did. Damn just listen to the first 30 seconds of D.O.A. If that don't get your attention you are dead.

All I know is the first time I heard "Eruption" I was scared by the sound of such an incredible guitarist. Then "You Really Got Me" kicked in and I was like... Oh! This
is Van Halen. I realized then what an
incredible guitarist Edward Van Halen is.

I wonder if he can still pull it off with this new Reunion tour and album?

I heard he has been having some health trouble... I don't know if he has recovered from his mouth cancer yet. In some ways I wish EVH could just make a solo album full of instrumentals.

I saw Van Halen at the UPS Field House in Tacoma, WA in 1978, just weeks after the first album was released. Boring. Within weeks I also saw two REAL rock and roll acts: Springsteen and the Clash.

I also saw a Van Halen video the other day. I see that Mr. Van Halen is still playing the same guitar solo he's always played (at the same place in the song, almost down to the second). He's a nice guy, however.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz............

Here is a proposition;
Anyone who can call someone like EVH "boring" should be forced to put their stuff on the MP3 section of this web page. I'm sure you are quite amazing daseiner and I'd love to hear your music.

I never said he can't play...of *course* he can, and when I saw him play I thought he was incredibly good and inspired. The problem was that he only knew one thing, and it got old very quickly for me. And David Lee Roth was an idiot. Remember, I didn't say his playing was boring so much as I said the band was boring.

Let's put it this way: his guitar playing became boring for me over a span of years, whereas the band became boring for me in a matter of minutes. It was like Heavy-metal Hee-Haw. Yeah, that's it, Eddie Van Halen is the Roy Clark of heavy-metal...
