One of my students asked me to check out his "Diatonic Harmony" DVD. So, he ordered me a copy! Cool. I've heard it's good. And, I've been wanting to look at it, anyway. I've been looking for a good one to recommend to people. And, I haven't found one yet. I'll report back, when I get a chance to check it out.

I haven't seen the whole thing, yet.

But, so far it looks like a LOT of useful info. Plus, Mr. Doppler seems to be a great instructor.

There are a lot of exercises, and he gets to them quickly. Kind of like the Tomo DVD "Accelerate Your Guitar Playing". But, this one has the scales (Major, and Pentatonic, Plus Modes, so far), Triads, and the 7 Chords.

I'm sure it will discuss chord construction, at some point. Hopefully, I'll have more to report back soon.

There is also a CD with the exercises and backing tracks ( I think), included in the package.

There are a couple of pdf files to print. These are the lesson examples, etc. He suggests that you print off the pdf files, and watch the entire DVD while reading along with the "Books". Also, he suggests you don't have a guitar in your hands, the first time you watch the DVD. So, this is my next step. To finish watching it, all the way through. Then, I can dig into it!

I will add this: I bought this through Amazon, from Guitar 411. Mrs. Doppler emailed me to tell me that they were on a trip, a little longer than planned. So, my shipment wouldn't get sent out within two days, as advertised. So they were going to include a FREE copy of Doug Doppler's new CD, "NU Instrumental", for my having to wait.

I thought that was really cool of them. They seem like a class act! I can't wait to dig back into that DVD.

It has a lot of exercises that will have you playing up and down the neck, in key. He has "Chord Relays", and "Scale Relays",
that have you playing the harmonized major scale up and down the neck. Plus, there are a lot of tips on string muting, picking, etc. All of the basics seem to be covered.

This would be an excellent package for someone who knows a little Diatonic Theory, and wants to get some practical, hands-on exercises. This video is like a "Guitar Workout". Go through the exercises once a day, and you'll probably get a lot more profecient on your instrument. This DVD workout, would make a great warm up routine.

A lot of the video is similar to the way I teach my students. A lot of the same core concepts. Also, the way Mr. Doppler adds new exercises and concepts, and then incorporates them into a workout/review. This is something I stress, also. As you add another concept, use it in your warm-ups. That way, you get the concept "under your fingers". Plus, since you do it every day, you probably won't forget it!

I went through the DVD lessons quickly when I first got it, but I haven't spent the time to really work with it.

It covers a lot of ground, and approached what I already know in similar and different ways.

I met Doug and have exchanged several e-mails with him. He is really a sincerely nice guy. A great guitar player as well.
