I need some feedback. I posted this on TGP, to answer a question a member there had. Is this a pretty clear description? I think it is. But, I thought I'd try to get some input from you guys.......
W = Whole Step = 2 Frets. EX: A to B = Whole Step H = 1/2 Step = 1 Fret EX: A to A# = 1/2 Step The Major Scale Pattern Is A Pattern Of Notes That Span 1 Octave. The First Note Is Called The ROOT Note. This Names The Scale. EX: G Is The ROOT Of The G Major Scale. Between Each Note, There Is An Interval (Distance) Of A Whole Step (2 Frets), Or A 1/2 Step (1 Fret). There Are 7 Different Notes In The Pattern. The 8th. Note Is The OCTAVE Note. The Pattern Of Notes Is Very Specific. Here It Is: W W H W W W H ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----3---5---7---8---10---12---14---15----------------------------------------- Above Is The G Major Scale, Starting On The E String, 3rd. That's about as clear as it gets.

Thanks. I just wanted it to be easy to digest, for someone unfamiliar with the info and terminology.

Looks good, really good in fact. I may steal it to teach others with. One thing, you did botch the intervals a bit. the 4ths, 5ths and 6ths are skewed. Otherwise it looks really good.

No, wait. It's just a spacing thing. It looks great, maybe change the spacing so idiots like me don't get the wrong idea.

Yeah, the spacing gets screwy every time I copy and paste it.
I have been trying to figure out how to keep that from happening. But, so far....... You can put it into Wordpad, and line up the vertical "Bar Lines". But, I can't get it to work out when put into a post. I find that scale sequences are one of the best ways to add or release tension in a solo. Sometimes a solo just calls out to end on a low note. In that case, descending scale patterns are a great way to get there. Other times, you want to lead up to a searing high note. An ascending scale sequence can do the job nicely there.
Hopefully these exercises will get you interested in scale patterns. These are just a few common examples. If you search hard enough, you will find tons of other out there. Or you can come up with your own! ______________________ Amo_123 It's no secret that Fender makes great guitar amps, but which one is the best? We think it's the Blues Junior. Amo, welcome to the Forum!
I agree about sequences. I find them very useful, also. One of my favorites is something I picked up off of an old record. It's a Triplet phrasing. Play the second note of the scale, then the first note, and then the second note again. Then, just move through the scale one note at a time. EX: G Major AGA BAB CBC DCD EDE F#EF# GF#G etc. Works great with Pentatonics, too.
