If you don't know about the Simon & Patrick brand... they're one of the brands in the Godin family. I got a S&P parlor model after being shopping for a parlor on and off for 2yrs! I tried some Martins, some Taylors, I tried the Art&Lutherie AMI, checked into the Seagull Grand but never actually got to try it. I also checked into Larrivee but didn't get to try a parlor. You'd be surprised how hard it is to find parlors in stores! I decided to go with a parlor model because I realised that I fingerpick most of the time on an acoustic and that I like to have a sound more focused on mids for that to happen the way I want it. So I figured a parlor woudl do me good... went and tried some and was very pleased with the results. The S&P is quite lively with plenty of high end with a focused midrange. The lower end is good if you fingerpick... strumming well you do lose some compared to other models but afterall this is a parlor! I find it to be very balanced. The fret job is all I could wish for nothing to be reworked their the craftmanship is a trademark with Godin. This guitar was handmade, with silver leaf maple on back and side and spruce top. On their website they say that the silver leaf maple shares a lot in tone with mahogany amd I tend to agree to that, I compared it shortly to my all mahogny classical for a while before I sold it. It does have the warmth that is associated with mahogany it's a low midrange thing that you either like or not I guess. The action is great, the tuning is stable and the more I play it the more I like the smaller body, glad I finally got a parlor. Side note about the Tric case that those are sold with... I like it a lot. Compared to a gigbag it's more protection for sure and compared to most hardshell the fit is better and you have more ways to organise things when 'traveling'. It has shoudler straps wich can be handy at times and for some it might be quite good to have that... I'll probably use that only to save a trip to the car once in a while... I'd sure appreciate that if I had to a walk for a while with my guitar. It was uncommon to have shoulder straps when I started playing and I think it is a good idea! |
