I own a Godin LGXT with a triple Flame Burst finish. This guitar rocks. Not only is the build quality right up there with the PRS Gibson and such the pricing of this guitar just blows them away. This guitar comes with custom Seymore Duncan HB which can be split. Plus a LR Braggs piezo pickup and Synth Acess. All under $2000.00.
I used to own a Gibson Les Paul Standard which was a great guitar however this guitar sounds so much better and is more versitile for my needs. I would recomend Godin to anyone. Hattrick |

I got my Godin LG SP90 after a long search, having tried out dozens of different guitars and having owned a handful of them. Once I played the Godin I knew that it was the right one for me.
The body's contours lend a comfortable feel while playing, whether I'm sitting or standing, and the contoured neck heel joint allows for easy and comfortable access to all of the 24 frets. The neck itself has a wonderful shallow C shape, and fretboard has an overall flat radius. Bends are easy due to this, and the fact that it has jumbo frets, which are perfectly dressed on the ends. The string-through body design allows the tone to resonate well, and because of the angle at which the strings go over the tune-o-matic bridge the guitar sustains very well. You can feel the notes ringing all of the way up to the headstock, and the quality tuners keep the instrument in tune very well. As for the sound of the guitar, it's absolutely wonderful. The neck pickup provides a warm, smooth tone that has a wonderful rolled off top end. The middle position is similar, but with a tinge of Fender quackiness. Finally, the bridge position has a good helping of mids, and is great for classic rock and roll tones. Overall Rating: 9 If I had to do it all over again, I'd buy the Godin in a heartbeat. It simply can't be beat for the price (I paid just $400 with a hardshell case for mine). I'm planning to try out the rest of the Godin line when I get a chance, and I'd greatly encourage you to do the same if you're looking for a high quality North American-made guitar. |

Godin LGX:
mine 's a '96er, with the Godin Tetrad humbuckers. They're unique ! Blade/pole hybrid and basically two paired humbuckers-in-one-humbucker. I had to let it modded though, because the factory-settings left out most of the "split" positions, which are absloutely gorgeous. Compared it to a newer version, with the Seymour Duncans (and the new neck, see below) and preferred the Tetrads ! The body is perfect: contoured, nice mahogany and an 'OK' flame maple top. Not staggering AAA, but nice. The neck is thin and wide, which is very comfortable. Great ebony fingerboard. Piëzo works perfectly an personally, I like the EQ "Testarossa" style LG SP90: simpler than the LGX, but with a bigger sound. The pickups are great. I mostly use mid-position and the bridge P90 in my band, because the cut through better. At home, I love the neck P90...so much warmth... The neck is the best feature: less wide and slightly meatier than on the 'old' LGX, with 24 frets and a 24,75 radius which I prefer. Body is your standard Godin-body style, in flat topped mahogany. No fancy maple here.... Cost me 760E here in Europe, which is not expensive, though not as cheap as they cost you guys in the States In general: the strings-through are great, they look good and really add to the sound of them. The overall build quality is outstanding, considering what you pay for other guitars. |

Godin rocks! They are really cheap here in Canada naturally. I've got my sights set on a LG Signature for a humbucker equiped solid body.

I have a 1998 Godin LGX with the Seymour duncan humbuckers and the LR Baggs Hex pickups (piezo). The guitar is a cognac burst flame top. Just beautiful. The neck is nice and thin. This guitar was a steal for $475 off eBay (a month ago) with hardshell case. It has a 5-way switch to get either the humbucker or single coil sound and with the built in pre-amp for the acoustic sounds, it sounds REALLY good for acoustic. It's great to take one guitar to play at church. I just plug the acoustic input into my AG stomp and the electric end to my POD 2.0 both direct into the PA. Best buy I ever made.

I've had an LGXT in Red for years.
I swapped out the Seymour Duncan special-wound pickups for a set of Tom Holmes PAFs. The SDs are nice pickups but they just don't have the snap and grind of the Holmes. The stock pickups are "jazzy" sounding and mellow. I wired up the Holmes with a 5way switch that coil taps the 'buckers in the 2 & 4 positions, both pickups are on in the middle position, the 1 & 5 positions are for the bridge/neck pickups. The guitar was perfectly set up when I got it. You can't beat the attention to detail Godin puts into their factory setups. The Wilkinson tremolo is extremely stable. The all maple body is heavy and tends to enhance frequencies in the upper register. The mahogany neck is capped with an ebony fingerboard. As for playability, the guitar has a wide neck which is perfect for fingerstyle acoustic - being a fingerstyle guitarist, I use a guitar synth for alternate tunings without having to physically change the tuning on the guitar - very convenient. The neck on the LGXT is similar to my Goodall. I prefer narrower necks for blues, rock, or jazz electric. The piezos blend in well with the 'buckers making for a (nearly) unlimited combination of sounds. I plug into a Roland VG88 guitar synth which mimics different amp, guitar, effects, and tunings. Although the VG88 does an acceptable job, I prefer my own guitar, amp, speaker, and effects over a synth for serious tone... LFB ............................................................................................................................. Hey, I sound like me! |
